A native Seattleite and East Coast transplant, I have been interested in politics, religion, and race from the day I saw “The Autobiography of Malcolm X” on the bookshelf belonging to my BFF’s mom back in 1991. 1. Poor Blue. No country for type 4, “nappy” hair. Black women hate that her parents allow her to flaunt, unrestrained and unprocessed, what so many of them try so desperately to alter or “tame”. Curly hair can be messy and unstyled. Kinky hair has to be beaten into submission, that’s plantation rules. Can’t tell these mental slaves nothing. Le sigh.
