30-Day Challenge Day Seven: Your Tattoos & What They Mean

30 Day Writing Challenge

Day Six: What tattoos you have and their meaning

Tattoo

Today’s post will be quite short. The number of tattoos I have is zero, so the topic isn’t particularly relevant for me. All of my siblings and the majority of my cousins are tatted up. In 2012, I was surprised to discover that even my youngest aunt who is the quintessential pearl-clutching, middle-class, socially conservative-refuses to listen to secular music AA woman-up and got a tat!

At times, my relatives clown me for my lack of ink. Have I considered getting inked up? Yes, I’ve thought about it on multiple occasions. But each time change my mind because I’m too in love with what I have!  You see, from the neck down I am free of scars and blemishes.  And I dig the sight of my expanse of smooth, flawless skin so much that I cannot bring myself to alter it. I don’t look down upon those with tattoos at all. I just know myself, and aesthetically a tattoo wouldn’t please me on a permanent basis.

A native Seattleite and East Coast transplant, I have been interested in politics, religion, and race from the day I saw “The Autobiography of Malcolm X” on the bookshelf belonging to my BFF’s mom back in 1991. While my zealotry has thankfully diminished with maturity, I remain the deep thinking, passionate, and humble woman I have always been.
